Victor-Molev

VICTOR MOLEV was born in Nizhniy Novgorod (Russia) in 1955. In August 2006 he moved to Canada. Now he lives in Richmond Hill, Ontario.  He graduated from architecture faculty in 1976 and worked as an architect and theatre set painter. He immigrated to Israel in 1990. Victor was a member of the association of artists and sculptors in Israel.  He is a painter and graphic artist.  He participated in numerous exhibitions (both solo and general) in Russia, Israel and Europe.  His works can be found in private collections throughout Europe, United States, Canada and Israel.  You need to see his work for yourself.  How it could be described, I really don’t know.  What I do know is that I find it absolutely fascinating to say the least.

Victor, I want to thank you for participating in this project.  It is most generous of you considering how busy you are.  So it is sincerely appreciated.  I also want to thank you for doing this article in Russian as well, unfortunately Word Press for some reason does not recognize the Russian lettering.  I will try to solve this problem before the week is up.  I apologize to our Russian readers.  Shall we go right to the heart of the matter.

No. 1)  What is art (painting) to and for you?VICTOR MOLEV B

Art (painting) for me is a lifestyle.  A  way  to communicate with the outside world. Find answers to the questions raised by me. Sometimes – pray.

 No. 2)  What inspires you?

My work can be inspired by  anything.  Music, books, sound, combination of colors, the combination of words,  smell. To answer simply  is very difficult.

No. 3)  When you are creating, painting, where does it take you?  I mean where does your mind (spirit) travel?

When I’m working  on  a composition , my consciousness is in the “places”, from the reply to the second question. In the process of painting my consciousness is almost not involved. I can simultaneously draw and watch movies, listen to music, audio books, etc.

No. 4)  Do you think visual art, music and health are related and if so, how do you see this?

Visual arts, music and mental healthcare inseparably linked. This is an axiom. With physical health painting is also linked directly, because drawing oil on canvas is and physical labour.

VICTOR MOLEV CNo. 5)  When you are painting, how do you feel?

I was lucky that my hobby is my profession! So I feel great!

No. 6)  Do you identify with your subjects and if so, on what level?

Yes identify and very often. At what level-differently-depends on the storyline of the pictures

No. 7)  When do you do your best work?

My best work is in the future. It doesn’t depend on the time of the day.

No. 8)  Does painting help you connect with your higher self?

Certainly!

No. 9)  Some people seem to think the school system kills creativity.  How do you feel about this?

I find it hard to answer, because I was architecturally educated, and I have no special artistic education, but I am sure that skill requires education. But school can only weaken the artistic mind.

No. 10)  What you suggest could be a simple solution?Victor Molev 2376-Freud_copy

I can`t answer that…

No. 11)  In your answer to question 3, you say you can be doing other things like watching television, listening to music, or an audio book while you are painting and that your conscious mind is not really involved.  Your art I suppose, sort of reflects that in the sense that one sees two different images.

As we have two hemispheres in our brain, do you suppose this faculty of doing two things at the same time comes from using both hemispheres simultaneously?

No. 11) In reply to question 3, I meant that the work on canvas is the last step in a work of art.  Most of the work is done in advance in the mind or on a sheet of paper.  Therefore this step involves technology, and does not involve a lot of thinking strategies. The hands know what to do themselves, and the head is almost free.

Victor thank you again, and until we work together once more,  be blessed!

About

My name is Michele Andree. I am an artist, I paint musicians in action. I think I’m a musician at heart, my instrument being… a brush, so I play…brush and I paint… music.
I love jazz. I call it freedom music. It promotes special values. I love intelligent people and good conversations.

Some people ask me how music relates to art. Personally I find they go hand in hand. Music is what turns me on to painting. It makes me see colours
