CE SCIMONELLI’S PATH TO INSPIRATION!
CECILIA SCIMONELLI or CE as she likes to be called, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1982. Ce studied for 4 years at the School of Fine Arts “Lola Mora” in the district of Lugano. At some point she decided to move to the Black River Province, which gave her the opportunity to meet people as well as spend time alone. She drew a lot expressing her feelings and participated in a few shows as well. She finally decided to pursue her Bachelor of Visual Arts, spending a lot of time alone, drawing, doing photography, hiking by herself and finally decided to come back and settle down in Buenos Aires.
Ce, welcome and thank you for participating in this project. I hope my translation to English is close to what you are saying in Spanish. You have been most kind in agreeing to answer the following questions:
No. 1) What is art to and for you?
1) It is an expression of our natural being, which we all are. It is instinctive. Art helps us connect to our real feelings.
No.1 Que significa el arte (la pintura) para ti?
1) Es la expresión del ser natural, que todos somos. El ser instintivo. El arte nos ayuda a conectarnos y a sentirnos realmente.
No. 2) What inspires you?
2) Feeling inspires me, ideas, people’s actions inspire me, create something in me and sometimes that feeling makes me want to draw.
No.2 Que es lo que te inspira?
2) Sentir me inspira. Las ideas, los actos de las personas, me inspiran, generan algo en mí y a veces ese sentimiento, me da ganas de dibujarlo.
No.3) When you are creating, painting, where does it take you? Where does your mind travel?
3) My hands splatter color, tracing any kind of lines. I use any material when I have an idea. And I’ll let it go in whatever direction, everywhere.
Sometimes when I let the urge to paint or draw just flow, the drawing begins to take form right at the start and by itself. In those moments, I am at peace with myself while my mind guides and directs my movements which flow with confidence. I become less and less concerned with the final result but rather drawn into letting myself feel more and more. My spirit gets inside my work and guides my hands at that moment.
No.3 Cuando pintas, creas, a dónde te lleva el proceso? Donde viaja tu mente (espíritu)?
3) Mis manos manchan con colores, trazan líneas de todo tipo, 
cualquier material es útil cuando hay una idea. Y yo lo dejo que se mueva, como quiera por donde quiera.
A veces inicio un camino, cuando lo dejo fluir, por las ganas de pintar o dibujar, el destino llega solo. En esos momentos siento que mi mente resuelve y activa mis movimientos, el fluir, la paz conmigo misma es lo que resulta.
Cada vez menos, pienso en el “resultado final”. Cada vez más, pienso en dejarme sentir y dibujar eso.
Mi espíritu se mete adentro de la obra y mis manos resuelven en ese instante.
No. 4) Do you think painting, music and health are related and if so, how?
4) I believe that music and painting are ways of translating what humans feel, think and reflect on, and to communicate and share with others.
In the act of expressing (for the artist) and the act of receiving (for the viewer), there is a communication that awakens memories of the body and the soul, that are either pleasant, pleasurable, indifference, impressions and other sensations. This is how the body relates to art.
I believe that when a work is sincere and heartfelt, it is pure art. Therefore it is a healthy and liberating act to exteriorize what the world around us creates.
It’s also healthy to find works of art that we identify to, that touch and bring out the authenticity that each one has inside. If one cannot produce, create, invent, identify with what another produces, it is a vital function of art
No.4 Crees que la pintura, la música y la salud están relacionadas de alguna manera? Si estás de acuerdo, como la vez?
4) Considero que la música y la pintura son maneras de traducir lo que el ser humano siente, reflexiona y piensa, para comunicarlo a otro y compartirlo.
En el acto de manifestar (en el caso del artista) y en el acto de recibir (en el
caso del espectador), se produce una comunicación que abre a la del cuerpo y alma, para lograr grata identificación, gusto, placer, indiferencia, impresiones y demás sensaciones. En este sentido relaciono el cuerpo y el arte.
Creo que cuando una obra es sincera y sale del corazón, es arte puro. Por lo tanto es saludable y liberador, exteriorizar lo que nos produce el mundo que nos rodea. Sano también es buscar obras artísticas que nos identifiquen, que hagan saltar y emocionar al ser auténtico que cada uno ES. Si uno no puede producir, crear, inventar; identificarse con lo que otro produjo, es una función vital del arte.
No.5) How do you feel when you are painting, creating?
5) When I draw I feel connected with myself. When I focus, every movement, every detail has its reason and significance, as daily victories. . Personally I achieve this type of connection and attention naturally when I draw. Focusing on the remaining tasks of the day requires more effort.
No.5 Como te sientes cuando estás pintando, creando?
5) Cuando dibujo me siento conectada conmigo misma. Logro concentrarme, cada movimiento, cada detalle, tiene su causa y significado. Como los sucesos cotidianos. Personalmente logro este tipo de conexión y atención, naturalmente al dibujar. Las tareas del resto el día, requieren más esfuerzo para focalizar en ellas.
No. 6) Under what conditions do you do your best work ?
6) My best work is carried out when it is done to thank and honor someone. The emotion and feeling of gratitude for the other give meaning and significance to the act of painting and drawing. Ideas just come without 
effort. I let the colors and lines flow. I am confident of the result as I am guided by a good action.
The best is the expression of others when I give them the work. The work is personal and has inner and personal meaning when I see the recipient’s smile.
I usually draw to make a gift or honor someone. And when that is not the case, somehow the paintings and its recipient’s path crosses, be it when someone visits me at home or I visit the home of a friend, in a gesture of thanks, etc …
No.6 Cuando haces tu mejor trabajo?
6) Mi mejor trabajo lo logro cuando lo realizo para agradecer y homenajear a alguien. La emoción de agradecer y el sentir por el otro dan sentido y significado al acto de pintar y dibujar. Las ideas así llegan solas. Me dejo fluir en el sentido y los colores y las líneas salen a gusto. Confío en que el resultado llegará solo, por ser una buena acción la que orienta la obra.
Lo mejor es la expresión de los demás cuando se las entrego. Son obras personalizadas y el significado interno y fraternal que tiene para ambos se hace presente, con una sonrisa del que la recibe.
Suelo dibujar para regalar y homenajear. Y cuando no es así, siempre las obras y los destinatarios, se terminan encontrando. En una visita a mi casa, en una visita a la casa de un amigo, en un gesto de agradecimiento, etc…
No. 7) Do you identify to your subject and if so, on what level?
7) I am what I draw and the state of mind in which I find myself when I do the work. My life is linked to what I draw, so I always do different things.
No.7 Te identificas con tu sujeto/tema? Si lo haces, a que nivel?
7) Soy lo que dibujo y el estado en el que me encuentro cuando realizo
obra. Mi vida va ligada a lo que dibujo, por eso hago siempre cosas diferentes.
No. 8) Does painting help you connect with your higher self, whatever that is for you?
Painting and drawing are my inner reality, as I am indeed, from a beautiful truth, whether hard or easy to live and cope with.
No. 8 El pintar te conecta con tu “ser elevado” (lo que eso sea/signifique para ti)?
El pintar y el dibujar hacen tangible mi Ser real. Como soy en verdad. Desde la verdad más bella, ya sea dura o suave de vivir y sobrellevar.
No. 9) How do you feel about creativity in the public school system? And what could be a simple solution to improve it?
9) I have a degree in teaching in the education system. I think there are many ways to intervene in the education of someone, as people in the world. One can take a positive role as an educator and try to help bring out the best in others so that their contributions are productive. Or vice versa.
I think the best way to intervene, is in respecting the ideas of others, accepting the opinion of oneself, is one of millions.
Proposing situations that tend to reflect on what we know and enhancing the creative capacity to solve them, is a good way to educate.
My students enjoy the kind of language, for example, watching short animations, reading stories prohibited during military rule, reflecting on what literature provokes in them, writing tor communicate, interpreting pictures and reading for recreation. Not everyone is affected in the same 
way or impacted, but some do, and for me that is enough:)
It’s a hard job working in formal education, I think the exercise of patience and restraint is continuous. Children need help to grow like everyone else. Finding a good guide is a good thing that can happen.
You have to work constantly, even if sometimes we have don’t feel like it. So I think that the education system is not the problem, but the educators and our attitude towards the way we choose to educate. That is, we the adults. Today I take a more committed stance, different from when I started as a teacher, when I worried more about myself than for others.
The same thing happens to me as an artist, when I start drawing to give, I start to feel that we are all artists, having the ability to creatively express what lies within us. Which I consider a treasure that I hope will work for us to shine, to enlighten us together.

No. 9 Algunos dicen que el sistema educativo trunca la creatividad. Cuál es tu opinion al respeto? Si estás de acuerdo con que el sistema está matando la creatividad, que sugieres como una simple solución?
9) Soy maestra de grado por lo cual estoy dentro del sistema educativo. Creo que hay tantas maneras de intervenir en la educación de alguien, como personas en el mundo. Uno puede tomar un rol positivo como educador y tratar de ayudar, de sacar lo mejor del otro para que sus aportes sean productivos. O viceversa.
Creo que la mejor manera de intervenir educando, es respetando las ideas de los demás, aceptando que la opinión de uno mismo, es una entre millones.
Proponer situaciones que tiendan a hacer reflexionar sobre lo que se sabe y aumenten la capacidad creativa para resolverlas, es una buena manera de educar.
Mis alumnos disfrutan de la clase de Lengua, por ejemplo, observando cortos animados, leyendo cuentos prohibidos durante gobiernos militares, reflexionando sobre lo que la literatura les provoca, escribiendo para comunicarse, interpretando imágenes y leyendo para recrearse. No a todos les afecta de la misma manera o les impacta, pero a algunos sí, y para mí eso, es suficiente
Es un arduo empleo trabajar en la educación formal, creo el ejercicio de la paciencia y contención es continuo. Los niños necesitan ayuda para crecer, como todos. Encontrar buen guía es algo bueno que nos puede pasar.
Hay que trabajar constantemente, solo que a veces no tenemos tantas ganas de hacerlo. Por eso creo que el sistema educativo no es el problema, sino los agentes educadores y nuestra actitud hacia la manera que elegimos educar. Es decir, nosotros los adultos. Hoy asumo una postura más
comprometida, distinta a la de mis inicios como docente, me preocupaba más por mí que por los demás.
Lo mismo me ocurre como artista, cuando empecé a dibujar para regalar, comencé a sentir que todos somos artistas, por el hecho de tener la capacidad de expresar creativamente lo que hay en nuestro interior. Lo cual considero un verdadero tesoro que ojalá funcione para hacernos brillar, para iluminarnos entre todos.
