MIRTA BENAVENTE’S JOURNEY TO LIGHT!
MIRTA BENAVENTE, is an artist, a wife, a mother of three children, living and working in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She loves and celebrates life in all its manifest. She loves music and enjoys jazz, blues, rock,classical music and tango. She longs for a more balanced world. “Pure creation, yet unnamed, yet untitled, in a field full of vibration” would best describe Mirta’s art.
Mirta, I truly appreciate your participation in this project. You have so much to share, let us begin immediately.
No. 1) What is art to and for you?
I would say that art in general, in the different disciplines, is a reflection, a human legacy to show others how to understand reality, to convey emotions, feelings and values. An attempt to reach the imagination of people in ways that give us more a intimate and intuitive dialogue.
In particular, painting allows me to express with my brushes a search for balance between dream and reality.
Pregunta Nª 1 :Que significa el arte (la pintura) para ti?
Diría que el arte en general es sus distintas disciplinas es el reflejo, el legado humano para contar a otros la manera de entender la realidad, transmitir emociones, sentimientos y valores. El intento de llegar a la imaginaciòn de la gente por medios que nos concedan un dialogo mas ìíntimo e intuitivo.
En lo particular la pintura es el gènero que me permite plasmar con mis pinceles una búsqueda de equilibrio entre sueño y realidad.
No. 2) What inspires you? 
I love and enjoy music, I’m interested in literature, film and theatre.
I’m curious, I keep attuned with today, with my community and human problems in general. I deeply wish for a just and balanced world. I think this summarizes the emerging desires that inspire me, I find it impossible to define this because I really have some images and others not, but this a synthesis of my concerns and my dreams.
Pregunta Nª 2: Que es lo que te inspira?
Amo y disfruto la música, me interesa la literatura, el cine y el teatro. Soy curiosa, mantengo una sintonía con la actualidad, con mi comunidad y con la problematica humana en general.
Deseo profundamente un mundo mas justo y equilibrado. Creo que del resumen de todo esto emergen los deseos que me inspiran, me resulta imposible definir porque me invaden algunas imagenes y otras no, pero son una síntesis de mis inquietudes y mis sueños.
No 3) When you are creating, painting, where does it take you? Where does your mind travel?
An uncontrollable, powerful impulse, that takes me to mysterious desires, images that appear in my mind, strong and tenacious, flashes of light and clarity that take possession of the textures, shadows and color.
I like abstract for its vagueness and I love to think that it is a reflection of mine but that the viewer will also have his own. There are secrets in creativity that I am not interested in discovering.
Pregunta Nª 3: Cuando pintas, creas, a dónde te lleva el proceso? Donde viaja tu mente (espíritu)?
Un Impulso incontrolable, poderoso que suele llevarme a misteriosos deseos, a imagenes que aparecen caprichosamente en la memoria, fuertes, tenaces, relámpagos de luz y claridad que se adueñan de las texturas, las sombras y el color.
Me gusta lo abstracto por su indefiniciòn y me encanta pensar que es reflejo mio pero también lo sera del espectador. Hay secretos en lo creativo que no me interesa descubrir.
No. 4) Do you think visual art, music and health are related, and if so, how do you see this?
Music has the absolute power to enter through the senses and move without the listener having to question the fact.
In visual art, the viewer usually wants to understand and that can prevent access to the emotion he’s feeling.
I cannot say for sure but I feel that art is a therapy for a sensitive soul, which transmits sublime beauty to our mind and spirit.
Pregunta Nª 4: Crees que la pintura, la música y la salud están relacionadas de alguna manera? Si estás de acuerdo, como la vez?
La música tiene el poder absoluto de entrar por los sentidos y conmover sin que el receptor necesite certezas. En las artes visuales se suele querer entender y eso puede ser una traba para la emoción.
No podría asegurarlo pero siento que el arte es una terapia para un alma sensible, que transmite bellezas sublimes para nuestra mente y nuestro espíritu.
No. 5) When you are painting, creating, how do you feel?
When I first start a painting, I’m uncer
tain, a bit concerned, and I begin to search for an adventure that will rescue me. As my colours begin to emerge comes freedom and I can paint for hours, feeling happy and connected with my emotions!
Pregunta N ª 5: Como te sientes cuando estás pintando, creando?
Al comenzar una obra siento incertidumbre, un poco de inquietud y entro en la búsqueda de una aventura para rescatarme, así comienzan a gestarse mis colores y aparece la liberación, puedo pintar durante horas conectada con mis emociones y me siento feliz.
No. 6) Do you identify with your subject and if so, on what level?
I try to make myself work in series but almost always comes up some momentum so obsessive and I paint a lot of unfinished series that I will return to in time. While in general my work is abstract, I have different work inspired from different flows imagined, more surreal or figurative in which I do sketches and color tests.
At other times, I use graphite, charcoal, pastels and oils, now I’m more matérica, I use water pigments that I mix with all kinds of elements (quartz powder, marble, etc) I create many textures and reliefs.
I identify myself very strongly with my paintings, some more dramatic and melancholic sometimes celebratory and serene, I am in all of them.
Pregunta Nª6: Cuando haces tu mejor trabajo?
Trato de proponerme trabajar en series pero generalmente siempre surge algún impulso obsesionandome y así pinto en un montón de series inacabadas que retomo según las épocas. Si bien en general mi trabajo es abstracto, tengo obras de distintas corrientes e imaginarios, mas surrealistas o figurativas en las cuales hago bocetos y pruebas de colores.
En otras tiempos utilizaba grafitos, carbonilla, pasteles y óleos, en la actualidad soy mas matérica, uso pigmentos al agua que mezclo con todo tipo de elementos (polco de cuarzo, mármol,etc) realizo muchas texturas y relieves.
Me identifico profundamente con mi pintura, algunas mas dramáticas y 
melancólicas, otras celebratorias y serenas en todas estoy yo.
No. 7) When do you do your best work (in what environment: night, day, alone, with other artists etc.)
Once I’ve got the light, the forms, and range of tones have entered my personal microcosm, it doesn’t matter is someone else is there. There is just the canvas, the brushes and me. I always prefer to work alone and with music.
Pregunta Nª7 : Te identificas con tu sujeto/tema? Si lo haces, a que nivel?
Una vez que logré una luz, unas formas, una gama de tonos entró en mi microcosmos personal, no importa quien me rodee.
Somos la tela, los pinceles y yo. Siempre prefiero trabajar sola y con música.
No. 8) Does painting help you connect with your higher self, whatever that may be for you?
No, in an absolute sense. But in my opinion the connection with creative energy is something sacred.
Pregunta Nª 8: El pintar te conecta con tu “ser elevado” (lo que eso sea/signifique para ti)?
No, en el sentido de un absoluto., pero en mi opinión la conexioón con la energía creativa tiene algo de sagrado.
No. 9) Many people feel the school systems kill creativity, how do you see that?
Yes, unfortunately I agree. I’ve done painting workshops with children and it was a revealing experience, revealing the creative flow and an insatiable curiosity arises spontaneously when stimulated.
Pregunta Nª 9: Algunos dicen que el sistema educativo trunca la creatividad. Cuál es tu opinion al respeto?
Si, lamentablemente estoy de acuerdo. He realizado talleres de pintura para niños y fue una experiencia reveladora el caudal creativo mas la curiosidad insaciable surgen espontáneamente cuando son estimulados.
No. 10) If you agree with question 9, what do you feel would be a simple solution to this problem?
The problem is very complex and certainly beyond me, the creative processes need space, time and silence and our society offers and imposes quite the opposite, everything has to be practical, fragmented in life and in action.
Pregunata Nª10: Si estás de acuerdo con que el sistema está matando la creatividad, que sugieres como una simple solución?
El problema es muy complejo y por supuesto me excede, los procesos creativos necesitan, espacio, tiempo, silencio y nuestra sociedad ofrece e impone lo contrario, todo tiene un tinte utilitario, fragmentario en la vida y en la acción.
