ILHAM LARAKI OMARI’S OWN SOLFEGGIO!
ILHAM LARAKI OMARI was born in Casablanca. Her artistic talents became apparent at a very early age through music and dance. Later on, after finishing her studies, llham started her own publishing and graphic creation company. This interest in the arts brought her to take up studies in order to acquire the necessary techniques and complete her training in this domain. After many years of training in drawing and painting which allowed her to experiment art in its multiple facets, meet many people, she was finally able to fully embrace her passion!
Ilham Laraki Omari est née à Casablanca. Très jeune, elle découvre ses talents d’artistes qui se manifestent dans la danse et la musique. Après des études supérieurs en gestion, elle créé sa propre entreprise d’édition et de création graphique. Son penchant pour l’art l’amène à entamer par la suite un cursus académique pour acquérir les techniques nécessaires et parfaire sa formation dans ce domaine. Plusieurs années de formation de dessins et de peinture, lui permettront d’approcher l’art de ses multiples facettes, faire des rencontres, des échanges, et se consacre alors complètement à sa passion.

No. 1) What’s art for you ? 
In my opinion, art is a universal language of feelings through painting, music, dance, writing or any other forms of art.
No. 1) Qu’est-ce que l’art pour vous? (En général et personnellement)
Pour moi, l’art est un langage universel des sentiments, à travers la peinture, la musique, la danse, l’écriture ou toutes formes artistiques.
No. 2) What inspires you?
Divine beauty of the universe, the language of leaves in trees; the light of a sunset; love; passion and emotion.
No. 2) Qu’est-ce qui vous inspire?
La beauté divine de l’univers, le langage des feuilles des arbres, la lumière d’un coucher de soleil, la passion, l’émotion
No. 3)When you are painting and creating, where does it take you, where does your mind travel?
As you said it, my mind is travelling when I paint. I don’t think anymore, I really feel alive and I give all my soul in my paint.. So the paint absorbs me, calms me and fills me!
No. 3) Lorsque vous peignez, créez, où cela vous amène-t-il? Où voyage votre esprit?
Vous l’avez dit, je voyage quand je peins, je ne réfléchis plus, je vis et me donne complètement, oui la peinture m’absorbe, m’apaise, me comble !
No. 4) Do you think painting, music and health are related and if so, how?
Yes, I believe that music and painting are a kind of purification of the body and mind. Sometimes, in my arts studio, I find myself moving in the spirit of the music I love listening to, carried away by the melody, the rhythm, and coming back to the canvas. My first painting exhibition was titled “Vibrations”, I’ve chosen the theme of music because of the instruments. I’ve studied solfeggio and musical harmony; I also play the piano. I think that painting and music are complementary if we add on top of that dance or sport. As a matter of fact, it represents an excellent therapy!
No. 4) Croyez-vous que la peinture, la musique et la santé sont reliées et si oui, comment?
Oui je le crois , musique et peinture sont une sorte de drainage pour le corps et l’esprit, il m’arrive souvent, dans mon atelier, de me retrouver à bouger sur une musique que j’aime, emportée par sa mélodie, son rythme, et revenir à la toile, ma première exposition a été titrée ‘vibrations’, j’avais choisi comme thème la musique, ses instruments, j’ai étudié le solfège et l’harmonie musicale, je joue au piano, je trouve que peinture et musique sont complémentaires, si on leur rajoute en plus la danse ou le sport…c’est une thérapie pour la santé !
No. 5) How do you feel when you paint?
I feel transported, bewitched, nude and without restraint!
No. 5) Comment vous sentez-vous lorsque vous peignez?
Emportée, envoutée, nue…sans aucune retenue!
No. 6) Do you identify with your subject , and if so, on what level?
There’s a part of me and of my feelings in my subjects, even when it’s about the abstract. I don’t reproduce any document or photo, but I start from a detail that can be figurative to escape more in vagueness, the hazy, giving way to dreams and imagination.
No. 6) Est-ce que vous vous identifiez à votre sujet et si oui, à quel niveau?
Il y a de moi et de mes ressentis dans mes sujets, même quand il s’agit de l’abstrait, je ne reproduis jamais un document ou photo, mais, je pars d’un détail, pouvant être figuratif pour m’évader dans l’imprécis, le flou, laissant place au rêve, à l’imagination .
No. 7) Under what conditions do you work best?
Alone, listening to music in the light of the day, but I often work at night also.
No. 7) Dans quelles conditions travaillez-vous le mieux?
Seule, en écoutant de la musique, sous la lumière du jour, mais il m’arrive souvent aussi de travailler la nuit.
No. 8) Does painting help you to conect with your higher self?
Painting helps me to listen to myself me, to understand myself, to travel through myself, to be in harmony with myself.
No. 8) Est-ce que peindre vous aide à communiquer avec votre “Je” supérieur, quoi que cela puisse être pour toi?
Peindre m’aide à m’écouter, me comprendre, voyager en moi même, me retrouver.
No. 9) What do you think of creativity in the public school systems both in the student’s development than its use in resolving problem?
I had the chance to study during my childhood, in a nursery school and in elementary after-school arts activities with the Nuns, I remember we were doing embroidery hand-made, initiation to knitting with needles, to chrochet, painting, coloring, collage, pottery and a multitude of technics in fine arts, and we were even entitled to an initiation to cooking. I propose to generalize this method to the public schools by introducing these activities from the earliest age. It is wrong to think that by this age children will be overworked, however, it enables them to gain good dexterity, allowing freedom of their imagination and stimulates their creativity. Not to mention that at this age, children are very receptive, they will not forget these achievements, and may call upon this knowledge later in life, in many areas.
No. 9) Que pensez-vous de la créativité dans les systèmes d’écoles publiques tant au niveau du développement chez l’étudiant que son utilisation dans la résolution de problème?
J’ai eu la chance d’étudier pendant mon enfance, en maternelle et au primaire des activités artistiques parascolaires chez les sœurs, je me rappelle qu’on faisait de la broderie sur tissu à la main, l’initiation au travail de la laine avec les aiguilles, les crochets, la peinture, le coloriage, le collage, la poterie ainsi qu’une multitude de techniques en arts plastiques, et l’on avait même droit à une initiation en cuisine. Je propose de généraliser cette méthode aux écoles publiques, introduire ces différentes activités dès le plus jeune âge. Il est faux de penser qu’à cet âge, l’enfant va être surmené, au contraire, ceci lui permettra d’acquérir une bonne motricité, laisser évader son imagination, stimulera sa créativité. Sans oublier qu’à cet âge, l’enfant étant très réceptif, il n’oubliera pas ses acquis, et pourra faire appel à ses connaissances plus tard dans sa vie, dans plusieurs domaines.
No. 10) In your opinion, what could be a simple solution to improve creativity in the public school system?
Allow more trips to museums and exhibitions, giving more students free rein to create, 
provide art work in groups but also individual for total freedom of expression, introducing more technical arts.
No. 10) Selon vous quelle pourrait être une solution simple pour améliorer la créativité dans le milieu scolaire?
Prévoir plus de sorties au musées et expositions, donner plus libre cours aux élèves pour créer, prévoir des travaux artistiques en groupe mais aussi individuels pour une totale liberté d’expression, introduire plus de techniques en arts plastiques.
No. 11) What do you hope to teach, give, contribute through your art?
If I can bring the warmth, light in the heart of those who reach closer, into my art, I would be filled!
No. 11) Qu’espérez-vous enseigner, apporter, contribuer par le biais de votre art?
Si j’arrive à apporter de la chaleur dans le cœur de ceux qui approcheront de près mon art, j’en serais comblée !
