CREATIVE  TEACHING!  This week, we’d like to publish the answer we got from one of Hélène’s former students, to a question she asked her.  We are late in this week’s article because we did not want to put pressure on this child.  She answered us in part which we will publish below.  We’ve also asked another child the same question, that is what did Hélène do that was special for her.  We do not yet have the second child’s answer.  So here’s what M. said:

Hélène, we’re listening.

She does not want me too transform her words too much  but  as she is dysphasic her parents helped her a little bit to write her comments … The ideas are hers, but it’s rather difficult to put my former students back into context.  Although she is no longer in my class  since last year, I’ve kept in touch with her.

She continues to develop through her own personalized projects that royalty-free-photo-antique-book-pile-375x500respect who she has come to realize  she is.  Such results come from my type of pedagogy enhanced with my own personal touch!

Here’s a bit of what that student verbalized  when asked:  What have I done special for you in teaching you?

M: ‘You taught me to have fun while learning.  I remember when you told us the story of  Native Americans, we had transformed the whole class and even lived like them.

Me, everyone thought that I was putting too many details, details, details.  It irritated my other teachers.   But you instead said: ‘Wow you’re creative and you have a sense of beauty.’

You allowed me to draw (make a drawing) my vocabulary and then refer to the words that were too complicated for me to write”  I was the only one who did it this way. You told me:  ‘Go ahead, make yourself  happy, teach yourself  how to learn.’  I didn’t really understand at first what you meant by that but I knew you trusted me.

I would give tons of details and you’d say I made ordinary words beautiful.

One word I could not remember because I’m dysphasic is the word tear, you complimented my expression when I called it drop of sadness,  and you had drops of sadness in yours eyes then.  You told the others that I was a true poet!

I’m older now, I’ll be 11 years old in April.  What you gave me is a taste for passions. Ah!  And yes, my new project is designing clothes with my friend Pat for her mother who loves our passion!  And we’ll invite you, Madame Hélène,  so that we can show you our things.  I send you big kisses and I’ll call you.  M. who still loves you!

If possible, we’ll introduce the second child next week!

I hope you’ve enjoyed Creative Teaching as much as I have.  If anyone has any suggestions for future articles on subjects that are related to creativity, health and wellness on all levels, please let me know.

About

My name is Michele Andree. I am an artist, I paint musicians in action. I think I’m a musician at heart, my instrument being… a brush, so I play…brush and I paint… music.
I love jazz. I call it freedom music. It promotes special values. I love intelligent people and good conversations.

Some people ask me how music relates to art. Personally I find they go hand in hand. Music is what turns me on to painting. It makes me see colours
