GILLES VALLÉE’S EMOTIONAL TRACES!

By likemindblog

Gilles-Vallée-GV3

GILLES VALLÉE, is a self-thought sculptor, native of Montreal and although he loves the visual arts, he’s had to earn his living doing something else.  Having never found other artists who did the kind of work he does, he’s developed his own techniques.  He considers his art to be primarily the art of assembling and marry objects and matter. “Considering that I use many colors with acrylic, oil and wax, says Gilles, my art is also the marriage of sculpture and painting.”

Gilles, bienvenu, welcome and thank you for agreeing to participate in this project.  In fact your participation is helping me expand to other forms of art and I am quite happy about that.  Let us get to the heart of your article immediately.

No. 1) What is art to and for you? (in general and personally) Gilles Vallée = La dame du théâtre des deux mondes

Generally, art is defined as a mode of expression. Whether in art or in the conventional world of contemporary art, it is generally agreed that art expresses things, whether the expression of emotions of the artist who made an abstract painting or termination of something by the artist who designed a sculptural installation.
More personally, in my work, my sculptures express my emotions and illustrate my interior climate at different times. My artistic process is based a lot  around  the union between the material and the human mind; material allowing the mind to express things that words can not express.

No. 2) What inspires you?

Inspiration for me comes not from  the outside. Everything comes from the inside… from my past, my fears, my sorrows, my joys, my desires …
My creative process is introspective and contemplative.

No. 3) When you are creating, in your case sculpting, where does it take you? Where does your mind travel?

When I begin a piece, I have a general idea, it is always a character I’ll put in a certain atmosphere and express something in particular. Subsequently, there is a technical step for me to assemble different materials (wood, plaster, metal, stone, jewellery). Gradually the technical stage ends and there is more and more improvisation;  my instinct taking over. Finally, the magic moment comes towards the end of the process. Some call it the creative trance. During that time, I no longer think, I think it is at this point that the spirit of the artist intervenes. In twenty minutes, the creative acts succeed one another without logical thinking. Usually, almost always, it is then that the personality of the work happens, the character is changing and becomes more than I had imagined. Then occurs one other time, I feel that the work is completed in seconds. Jackson Pollock once compared it to that moment happens when we make love and we feel that it’s over. It is not explained, it does not plan, we feel and that’s it.

No. 4) Do you think sculpting, music and health are related and if so how?

Any form of expression contributes to the maintenance of health and even cure in some cases, art therapy has long demonstrated  this.   Whether  visual arts, music, dance, theatre, all  modes of expression help maintain a balance, which promotes physical fitness and mental health.

No. 5) How do you feel when you are sculpting?

Usually my mind is empty and I feel good, the only concern being to create the work in progress.

No. 6) Do you identify with your subject and if so, on what level?

Completely because in my work, all works express something of my life that I generally express symbolically.

No. 7) Under what conditions do you work best?

I need to work alone and when I want. Often, I like working with music that appeases me. Sometimes I need to calm my mind with Mozart but at times I need the power of Beethoven to help me channel my energy while working with different materials.

No. 8 ) Does sculpting help you connect with your higher self, whatever that is for you?

Yes, because my work is introspective and contemplative.  Each one works materials according to his or her personality.

No. 9) How do you feel about creativity in the school system?Gilles Vallée - Régénérescence3

Unfortunately, the school system development is based primarily on the acquisition of knowledge.

No. 10) In your opinion, what could be a simple solution to improve creativity in the school system?

In my opinion, encourage reflection and the use of instinct would help rather than giving knowledge to simply memorize.

No. 11) What made you choose sculpting versus another form of art?

The fact that the sculpture puts you in contact with the material.

Gilles Vallée - RenaissanceNo. 12) What are you hoping to convey through you art?

Just emotions; emotional traces of my life.

Gilles, again thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us.  Your work is most original.  Until our paths cross again, keep well and be blessed!

About

My name is Michele Andree. I am an artist, I paint musicians in action. I think I’m a musician at heart, my instrument being… a brush, so I play…brush and I paint… music.
I love jazz. I call it freedom music. It promotes special values. I love intelligent people and good conversations.

Some people ask me how music relates to art. Personally I find they go hand in hand. Music is what turns me on to painting. It makes me see colours
