GILBERT SWIGGERS FROM BELGIUM

Painting for me is a quest for the meaning of the theme I’m doing.  It is a search for spontaneous changes in compositions that are characterized in their own recognizable style.

Regular experiment gives now and then interesting results, it is a scan of one’s own abilities and limits.  Finds answers that can lead to some undefined questions.  The results should be clear and should not depend on a single directive, rather, the approach should allow some space for good pictorial coincidences which are likely to affect the final result.

Good coincidences that are not disruptive are allowed to add values in contemporary painting.  In my paintings, I search for a balanced approach to dynamic compositions to get shape and color.  Usually, my work is quite abstract or combined with figuration.  Feelings and fantasies also play an important role.

Gilbert, welcome and thank you for answering these questions:

1:  What is art for you?

Art is the product of human creativity. That’s what makes art so interesting for me . We all have different concepts and definition of the Arts, and can not be described as scientific, there are too many variations and I only try to make it. And then there is the major stumbling block in the recognition by art connoisseurs.

2:  What inspires you?SWEGGERS kopievantronco PAINTING

I could make a long list of things that inspire me.  It could be something someone said or something I’ve seen. Most of all I’m inspired by nature and world cultures. Many times it’s like a wheel that starts turning the moment I spot something that inspires me.

3:  When you are in the process of painting, where does it take you?  I mean, where does your mind travel?

This is probably the most important question. The mind should travel into the painting theme you are doing. Painting has the ability to almost hold time within itself. The work is ready when it looks inviting and poses questions to the viewer. On the other hand, it takes time for the different layers in a painting to dry, and this gives me the necessary time to reflect on what I did the day before.

4:  Do you feel painting, music and health are related?  If so why, in what way, how do you see that?

I have the habit of listening radio music while I’m painting and that feels good.

Has been claimed, for instance, that rhythm in music can be compared to the rhythm of a sinuous line in an abstract painting. But there’s also plenty of proof that the arts are entirely different breeds. Whatever side of the argument one takes, it’s obvious that there’s real difficulty in trying to capture the essence of one art in another. This is borne out by ”Lyrical Visions: Music and Dance in American Art” at the Montclair Art Museum. American & Native American Art – NJ  (New Jersey)

I have read  that  therapists design and lead creative programs to help improve peoples health. They may use drawing, painting, sculpting, drama, singing or music to counsel people with a variety of health problems. These artistic activities may help patients find the intrinsic joy of art and develop social or physical skills. These health professionals work to overcome patient depression, recover lost basic motor functions and build confidence using a range of activities.

SWEGGERS lovehurts1 PAINTING 5:  How do you feel when you are painting?  I mean emotionally, spiritually?

When I paint I concentrate on obtaining the best possible result. Painting can sometimes reinforce emotional feelings by a well archived results.

I believe that an artist must have the necessary passion for the profession.

6:  Do you identify with your subject and on what level?  Could you elaborate?

 No, I don’t.

7: When do you do your best work?

When I make time to paint, time is not important.

8: Does art help you connect with your “higher self“ your own essence in other  words?  Could you elaborate?

Today we live in an exciting fast world.  A creative hobby makes me forget daily routine.

For me painting is a pleasant occupation. Creativity is enhanced by continuing the search for a topic that interests me. Inspiration is the basis for this, and the other a framework within which research and knowledge development. At the end of the trip one must be richer, not financial, but as a person.

It is interesting that constructive criticism can achieve better results.

Searching for a good pictural solution should not cause stress, if it does, it is best to leave it for a while, store, and then with a new look complete and finish it.

Design and composition have numerous options, there are no limits in design and color use, just think of the experimental  that many artists are doing.

10: Do you feel that creativity should hold a more important role in the school system?SWIGGERS PA200005 PAINTINGS

Regular education (in Belgium) has a study program which gives little or no room for creativity. And that is a shame!

About

My name is Michele Andree. I am an artist, I paint musicians in action. I think I’m a musician at heart, my instrument being… a brush, so I play…brush and I paint… music.
I love jazz. I call it freedom music. It promotes special values. I love intelligent people and good conversations.

Some people ask me how music relates to art. Personally I find they go hand in hand. Music is what turns me on to painting. It makes me see colours
